Japan? Canada? States? - Skier77

Great season Aussie resorts and thanks to everyone who made it wild. The people the meet on the chairs, the crew you ride with in the park, and all the mountain guys that do the hard yards to make the skiing and riding as nig as can poss, the groomers, patrollers, snow making dudes, park builders, beer sellers, and everyone else. Now all that is left to do is work out whether we are going to head to the US, Canada, Europe or the Jap-Land for a couple of weeks summer sliding...

New Snow - Super Nick
Posted: 17/09/2007

Good news, it snowed again last night. Somewhere b/w 5 - 10 cm of fresh. The quality of this new snow is unusually light and fluffy for this time of year also. Real little bonus for anyone that gets to ski today or tomorrow. Unlikely to be enough to open up nay new terrain but a fun layer of fluff on top of a solid base on the runs.

My August Falls Trip - Papa Ken
Posted: 30/08/2007

It was such a good feeling packing the car up and leaving in the early hours of the morning on our adventure.  We were venturing to Falls Creek, the first time for the 07 season.  From reports in the media and checking out the snow cams I could tell we were up for a fantastic weekend of riding.

Our first day of riding was on Saturday 11th August.......officially the worst day ever!  It was raining enough for you to get drenched through and through, but not windy enough for the lifts to close.  This meant we had no excuse not to take on the awful weather and get out there for our weekend of fun.  It turned out to be great day………a very cold day, but a great day!

There was only one issue that faced us upon arriving home, our accommodation in Mt Beauty didn't have a drying room so anything that generated heat was turned on that night to try and dry our saturated clothes.

The next day was just brilliant!  The rain had stopped and the snow was freshly groomed.  We arrived on the Mt at about 10am and didn't stop until the last life closed at 5pm.  Because of the great snow falls earlier in the season the whole mountain was covered and every lift open.  It was just wonderful.

That night I said a sad goodbye to my fellow friends and family and headed out for a beer.

During the week I was blessed with the best weather anyone could ask for.  Beautiful sunny days and the snow was just fantastic.  The park looked amazing and was full of talent all week in preparation for the Big Air comp on Saturday night.  The Big Air comp went off with a nice snow dump coming in for the couple of hours.  It was great to see all the local riders getting out there and giving it everything.

All in all Falls Creek really lived up to its name this year.  Even though our summer sun is slowly melting the snow away if you have a look on the snow cams you will see there is still plenty left.  I know I will be making another trip ……..or two before the 07 season comes to an end.

Signing off. Puppa Ken.

Fresh Dusting & Sunshine - Super Nick
Posted: 14/08/2007

After a couple of tough weather days last week the sun has poked back through the last couple of days and the resorts are looking spectacular. I am at Falls and checking out the terrain park on Ruined Castle yesterday just blew the mind, the colour, size and quality of the features was incredible. Today the Summit looks incredible! On top of it all the last couple of nights have allowed for more snow making and have also included a freshening dusting of natural. Spectacular, spectacular!

The Sunshine After the Rain - Sneaky Sno
Posted: 12/08/2007

After howling bloody gales last week and raining yesterday we thought we might not even ski today, that it was time to pack-up and head home in good time to better prep ourselves for the oncoming week. Apparently not. This morning expecting more windy rainy weather we lay in late. When we did finally rise, it wasn't to the ghastly weather we had anticipated but a still sunny morning. Not much snow loss either which is great. A quick re-schedule and we will ride until mid afternoon and then hit the frog'n'toad.

Wickedly Wild & Windy - RiderGal

The week has been a tough one weather wise, I have visited two of the Vic resorts and now at the third and currently its a howling wind outside and the lifts are on windhold (hence I am inside, drinking coffee and writing this snow flirt blog). New snow predicted for over the weekend and if it is anything like the quality of some of the other dumps we have had this winter then it should make for some sic powder stashes. Anywho, I think its time to go find a quiet bar to spend the afternoon in and maybe a drink once midday ticks over. Catch you on the slopes. Rider Gal xox.

Pea Soup Anyone? - Skier77
Posted: 1/08/2007

Yesterday and again today the higher Vic resorts have been deep in the heart of a thick pea soup. Cloud moving in and out slightly but generally allowing visibility to about 70m (my guess from skiing through it). Also overnight looks like a few centimetres of fresh snow fell, maybe 5cm, I haven't yet checked the reports. Possibilty of a good snow dump with this front coming through Friday - Saturday which could give the Vic resorts another foot of fresh on top. Hey, possibly more powder days!!!
