About Falls Creek

Falls Creek has developed itself a fantastic name as a fun family friendly resort, as the free-ride and terrain park capital of Australia, and as a cosy, ski-in, ski-out village. The Falls Creek season opens on Queens Birthday long weekend and closes at the end of September.
Falls Creek is very eager to show you everything that is NEW, including; a Bungy Trampoline, regular Pete the Snow Dragon shows in the Village Bowl, expanded snow making and snow fences - meaning increased snow cover on runs, expanded Women's Ski Program, expanded terrain parks, night skiing every night and much more. Getting to Falls Creek
Located in north east Victoria, Falls Creek is about 4.5 hours drive from Melbourne, 6 - 7 hours drive from Sydney, 40 minutes from Mount Beauty, and 1.5 hours from Albury airport and train station with regular bus connections plus hire car and limo services available.
Driving from Melbourne it is simply a case of heading out of Melbourne onto the Hume Highway and following this for around two hours up to the Great Alpine Road turnoff (turn right onto the Great Alpine Road, left would take you into Wangaratta), then follow this until you head through the town of Myrtleford, about five minutes after Myrtleford turn right onto Happy Valley Rd (following the signs to Mount Beauty and Falls Creek). Follow this road to the end (about 30 minutes) and then turn right onto the Kiewa Valley Hwy... [continued after Sydney directions]
Driving from Sydney / Brisbane is a simple matter of following the Hume Hwy south bound. Once you hit Albury keep following the Hume through Albury and then through Wodonga. Once heading through Wodonga follow signs to 'Ski Fields' and 'Tallangatta' and follow these by turning left. Follow these signs through a couple of round-abouts. Once you follow these signs and turn right onto the Kiewa Valley Hwy... [continued below]
[for both driving from Melbourne and Sydney] ...follow the Kiewa Valley Hwy until you pass through Tawonga, then Tawonga South and then Mount Beauty (last fuel as there is no petrol station at Falls Creek). Once you meet the Mount Beauty round-about, veer right and and you have the final 31km's up to Falls Creek. About 5km short of Falls Creek village you will be required to purchase a resort entry ticket, this ticket helps fund ski patrol, snow clearing, resort amenities and car parking, for a car it roughly costs $26 per day. Upon arrival at Falls Creek follow the parking directions of attendants and signs. If you require Oversnow Transport unpack you car at the terminal, buy your Oversnow tickets and then an attendant till show you where to park your car and give you a lift back to the terminal.
Flying / Coach or Fly / Drive - Qantas Link flies to Albury a couple of times aday from both Sydney and Melbourne. If you are travelling from other cities Qantas offers connecting flights that generally change planes at Sydney. Once you arrive at Albury airport many flights are met by a Pyle's Coach Service that can take you to either Mount Beauty or Falls Creek (check out http://www.pyles.com.au/ before you fly). Alternatively the airport has hire cars available or there are a couple of limosine services that can be booked to take you to Falls Creek. For info on buses, hire cars or limo services free call Falls Creek Reservations Centre on 1800 45 35 25.

The Terrain at Falls Creek
With 17% beginner, 60% intermediate and 23% advanced terrain, Falls Creek is ideally suited for families and first timers with it's award winning ski school and the likes of Wombat's Ramble (the longest beginner run in Australia at 3km), the wide beginner expanses of Drovers Dream and Playground and the newly installed Mouse Trap and Monkey Bar lifts for beginners.
For the more advanced skiers and riders, Falls offers the best tree skiing and potential for powder stashes in The Maze areas and the wider steeps in the Summit area. Let alone the first Super Pipe to be built in the Southern Hemisphere a couple of years back and being built bigger and better every year since and our huge terrain parks including Ruined Castle and Fox Trail for beginners, plus an all NEW park on Drovers for this season. The parks feature rails, tabletops, funboxes and more new features to be unveiled this season.

Renting & Retail Gear
When planning your Falls Creek snow holiday you have a stack of options as far as gear. Ski's, boots, boards, poles and clothing can be hired (or bought) on the mountain at Falls from a number of stores such as Falls Creek Sports or Gebi's Ski Hire. The advantage of getting gear up at the resort is not having to pack it into the car or bus and that you can often change it or have it adjusted during your stay if required.
Gear can also be picked up (again hire or buy) in Mount Beauty / Tawonga South which are the two towns at the foot of Falls Creek and the last towns before you make the 31km final climb up to the ski resort. The advantage to many people of getting gear in Mount Beauty / Tawonga South is that you can also hire tire chains their (must be carried by law up to Falls Creek).
The final alternative for many people is your local ski shop back home whether you are coming from Melbourne or Sydney or from one of the many regional towns around the country that have ski hire shops (mostly they're the ones within a couple of hundred km's of the resorts such as Albury, Wangarratta, Myrtleford, Bright).

The Falls Creek Village
One of the most unique things about Falls Creek is the fact that its cosy alpine village is ski-in, ski-out. This means that you can ski from your accommodation to a lift that will take you up to the ski runs and at the end of the day you can ski right back to the door of your lodge or apartment (snow permitting). The fact that Falls is ski-in / ski-out means that the village roads are not open to cars, so on arrival at Falls Creek you will need to either use the Oversnow service or carry your gear up to your accommodation.
The Falls Creek village is chock full of all the accommodation you cold think of, from classic alpine ski lodges, to budget self catering accommodation and from top end apartments through to budget flats. With such a huge range of terrific options you will find exactly what you are looking for, for yourself, your partner, your family or your friends.
The cosy village also offers a wide range of fine dining, take-away, pub food, cafes and coffee shops. Whether you are after a memorable fine dining evening for two, a cheap pizza and pasta meal for the family, a coffee to contemplate the afternoon's skiing or an evening of live music and drinks, Falls Creek's village offers it all.
